JAAGO is the first organization of its kind to build up a school (JAAGO school) in order to provide education of international standards to the underprivileged kids in the country. The founder of this youth-based organization is a law-school graduate - Korvi Rakshand. The organization sprout out from a charity program started by Korvi Rakshand with some friends to help flood victims in the slums of Rayer Bazaar in Dhaka. According to him, rather than a charity it is a "responsibility".

Ina world where most of us take primary education for granted, Bangladesh is oneof those countries were a good proportion of students are not enrolled in formal education system. Poverty is the main cause. Though the government provides free education, there are many hidden costs involved which acts as a disincentive for the parents to sent their kids to school.

This article which was published in a Bangladeshi newspaper - prothomalo, takes us through the activities organized by the VBD volunteers as a part of UCD 2012. They spent a whole day with the destitute kids in Chittagong by conducting cultural programs, competitions and prize giving ceremony. It also highlights the initiative of 19 university student volunteers who build up an informal school in Chittagong for these underprivileged kids. At present they are teaching 37 kids.
